Our Edwin Napoleon Chair was the first piece we ever made, it was Edwin’s own favourite chair that he had made for himself and his family (he described it as the most comfortable chair in the world!).
We have just completed a pair in traditional horsehair fabric woven by John Boyd Textiles on the same looms that the fabric Edwin habitually used was made on.
The client for whom we made these – a prestigious architect in his own right, for his own home – requested that we photograph the entire production process and the result are the images that follow in this blog.
The template frames are constructed by a specialist maker. The legs are stained to the client’s requirements and hand finished by the frame maker before the chairs go for upholstery.
The seat base is webbed by hand and the panels of the chair are wadded and covered one by one.
The chair is built up section by section.
And finally, with brass caps on the feet (castors also available) the pair is finished and ready to go to the client.
