Children’s Furniture
Lutyens’s love of children and childish sense of fun is well documented. Many of his buildings had little peep windows at a child’s height looking down over the grand spaces of the house so that the children could watch the grown ups at play. In one house, he built a round nursery, so that no child could ever be put in the corner!
The four lights here illustrated were designed for the nurseries at New Delhi and made subsequently for his own grandchildren. They are all hand painted.
The baby Napoleon and the baby table with ladderbacks are our own development, the Napoleon, is a miniature version of Lutyens’s own chair.
